The Amtrak Train returning to Grand Rapids was delayed Thursday night following severe weather near Michigan City, Indiana.
Amtrak tells WZZM 13 News the Pere Marquette was stopped in Michigan City after it was discovered many trees and power lines covered the tracks.
Amtrak brought in busses to transport the passengers back to West Michigan. We talked with Nancy Nystrom from Grand Rapids who was stuck on the train. She says they had to wait about two hours before the bus arrived. Nystrom says at first people were upset and angry about the delay, but then realized there was nothing they could do about it.
She says the train remained comfortable during the delay and people mainly read newspapers and played cards to keep themselves occupied.
The tracks were finally cleared shortly after 10pm, but a power outage prevented the train from returning to Grand Rapids.
