Floyd Mayweather Foundation Begins Winning Weekend
With Formal Induction of 7 Locally Selected Advisory Board Members
Thursday, February 7, 2008 Las Vegas Board of Trustees approved Floyd Mayweather Foundation's selection of seven local members of Mayweather's Grand Rapids hometown to serve as an advisory board to lead funding recommendations, new initiatives, and a recently announced kick-off celebrity weekend. With millions of dollars in requests in just six months, local influence and transparency remains an agenda of the Las Vegas Board of Trustees.
Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 6:00 PM at the Grand Rapids Public Museum, The Floyd Mayweather Foundation formally inducted seven named community members:
Chairman, Dr. William Cunningham, Metro Health Executive Vice President/Chief Medical Officer
Vice Chair, Mr. Lamont Walker, Warner, Norcross & Judd Senior Counsel
Mr. Wayman Britt, Assistant Kent County Administrator
Reverend Robert Dean, State of Michigan Representative
Dr. Theodore J. Jansma Jr., PhD, Psychologist
Mr. Kurt Kimball, Grand Rapids City Manager
Ms. Debra Muller, Grand Rapids Community Relations Committee
The Floyd Mayweather Foundation shared opening remarks and a light dinner. The induction ceremony included several short presentations and keynote speaker Marty Greenbaum, president of Greenbaum Marketing in Las Vegas, NV and incoming chair of the International Franchising Association. Goals of the Foundation, as they relate to insight on major franchising marketing strategies and branding expertise with new entities, were among Greenbaum's remarks.
Non-profit agencies and 501(C)(3) entities seeking funding from the Foundation learned about guidelines. Information from executive director, Beschelle Lockhart, included the Foundation mission statement, categories of giving, charitable grants structure, and the upcoming major impact for local, national and international agendas.
The formal induction by Floyd Mayweather and board of trustee president Tasha Robinson-White included remarks from incoming chair, Dr. William Cunningham.
"After an extensive search, we are proud to be represented by the caliber of leadership we have on our advisory board, stated executive director, Beschelle Lockhart.
"In our very early organizational stages of development, we feel every decision is an important one. We intend to take our time and continue to seek counsel. We believe our willingness to be patient and our desire to carefully plan will show to be the powerful success behind our future years."
