(WZZM)- Kick off the new year with one of these fun local events.
The Grand Rapids Antiques Market is taking over DeVos Place in Downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday and Sunday. You'll find vintage home goods, clothes, and jewlery there.
But if you don't want to shop, don't miss out on the Grand Finale of the Miss Valentine Pin Up Contest, which will be happening inside the Devos Place Ballroom during the Antique Show. 10 women have already made it past three rounds of judging, and will compete Saturday evening for the $1,000 grand prize.
These women are all about 1940's and 1950's glamour. Think Marilyn Monroe and Betty Page!
Kids 17 and under get in for free. Students with a valid school ID get in for $5. Everyone else can get in for $10 each day, or $12 for the weekend.
Give back to the wheelchair tennis community this weekend, by showing support at Ramblewood Tennis Center in Grandville.
The center is holding an adult doubles charity tournament in support of the Mary Free Bed Wheelchair Tennis Program.
The tournament deadline has passed, but spectators can always stop by to watch some fierce competition. And they are always welcome to donate.
The tournament is going on Friday through Sunday. Play level ranges from 6.0 combined teams to open tournament teams.
Finally, make a trip to the Lakeshore this weekend to watch the Downtown Holland Ice Sculpting Competition.
Just over 20 Ohio and Michigan college students will be competiting in what organizers say is a competition that breeds some of the world's best sculptors.
Saturday, master ice carver, Greg Butauski, will be giving a sculpting seminar from 10 to 11 a.m. in GDK Park on 8th Street.
The main event, the freestyle competition starts at 12:30 p.m. and runs along 8th Street in Downtown Holland.
It's an event for the whole family to enjoy, and it is completely free to the public.
