GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Clothing retailer H&M is opening its first location in West Michigan this fall. Company officials confirm they will open a store at Woodland Mall.

Rumors have been swirling for nearly three months that popular chains H&M, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe's were eyeing the Grand Rapids market.

Representatives from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's have not confirmed any plans to open locations in West Michigan.

Below is a news release, sent Thursday afternoon from H&M:

H&M, Hennes & Mauritz, one of the world's largest retailers known for offering fashion-forward apparel and quality basics, is thrilled to announce the signing of its first store in western Michigan at Woodlands Mall! The store will debut at Grand Rapids' most popular shopping destination in the fall of 2013.

H&M plans to continue to expand throughout the Midwest in 2013. Shoppers in western Michigan will have access to the brand's quality collections in a brand new 19,000 square foot store. H&M at Woodlands Mall will include collections for ladies, men, young ladies and young men, with separate "store within store" sections for accessories, lingerie, maternity, and sports apparel. This location will also carry H&M's fantastic children's collection, which features quality clothing for kids ages newborn to fourteen, as well as H&M's plus-size line, H&M+.

Since H&M opened its first store on New York's Fifth Avenue thirteen years ago, the U.S. has been one of the retailer's most important markets. With its emphasis on expansion, H&M continually seeks out the best properties and locations for its customers. Now offering U.S. consumers access to quality fashions at the best prices through 269 locations across the country, H&M is excited to enter another important U.S. market.
