Spring Lake - from Jon Mills

SPRING LAKE, Mich. (WZZM) -- It was just after noon Friday when volunteer caretaker Crystal Gray noticed her newly adopted dog slipping through her backyard fence.

Gray said, "She got between the shed, pushed against a small tree, went through the small slots and got out through the fence on our neighbors side.

It didn't take long for the dog, named "Mama Hope", to wander two blocks over to the Spring Lake Country club. Cornered by people, the English Pointer mix darted into a drain culvert at the country club entrance, making it's way at least 12 feet into the pipe.

The Spring Lake Township Fire Department, Ottawa County Sheriff's Department, animal control officers, and numerous other volunteers tried many method to coax the dog out.

After hours of calling and concern, the dog was safely pulled from the pipe. After the trying ordeal, "Mama Hope" was dried off and quickly cleaned up. The hope is to find a permanent home for her.

Adoption or foster home inquiries can be directed to Michele's Rescues in Spring Lake.
