(DETROIT FREE PRESS) - It just might be the party of the summer: Kid Rock will play Comerica Park on Aug. 12.
The Detroit rocker announced show details at a media event underway at Belle Isle.
Rock arrived at the press conference at Belle Isle's beach area via paddle board - and joined by hockey-playing pals Nick Lidstrom and Chris Chelios.
Sammy Hagar & the Wabos have been enlisted as show opener.
Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. June 11 at Tickets.com, the stadium box office and select Meijer stores. Seats will be $30, $49.50 and $79.50, with upper deck six-packs available for $99. Details on VIP packages, which will include a customized Kid Rock-Detroit Tigers jersey, will be announced.
The Free Press reported in April that Rock was aiming for an August return to Comerica Park, scene of a successful two-day stand in 2009 - his biggest hometown shows to date. Rock got fans buzzing last week with an online hint about pending Comerica Park news.
This summer's show is expected to include some of the festival elements that were part of the '09 stand, which drew thousands of fans to the stadium parking lot for daylong parties.
Kid Rock also said his Comedy Central roast, scheduled for Aug. 14, may be off.
