(WZZM) - The Van Andel Institute continues to make adances in cancer research that help find cures for so many different types of cancer.
But making advances takes funding to conduct the research, testing and clinical trials.
The sad reality is that national funding for this type of research continues to get cut.
That's why there's been a grass roots effort to raise money.
Stand Up to Cancer is a national fundraiser that is broadcast on all three networks and involves more than 100 celebrities asking for your donations for cancer research.
Grant money is then divided among top research institutions to further their efforts to find cures.
One of those research institutes that has recieved grant money not once but twice is right here in West Michigan.
Craig Webb, a researcher with the Van Andel Institute, talked about what the money from the fundraiser helps with and his upcoming trip to Los Angeles to participate in the telethon.
