GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Grand Rapids students had a unique experience by holding class in a local cemetery. Seventh graders from St. Thomas the Apostle School were introduced to a research and a year long community service project Friday morning at St. Andrews Cemetery.

The students were their learning about the history of Grand Rapids as well as doing some improvements to the cemetery. Some of the clean up project include brush removal and gravestone rubbing.

The research project is for their Language Arts and History and Religion class. Instructors from the school feel that this would teach the students how to do hands on research.

Two weeks ago the Grand Rapids Diocese had a ground penetrating survey at Saint Andrews Cemetery, the same cemetery where the students will be conducting their studies.
