GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - There are just a few hours left in 2012 and tens of thousands of people are expected to line Monroe Avenue tonight for the HOT New Year's Eve party.

This is the fifth year for the celebration, which includes free performances by Jesse McCartney, Sylvia Yacoub from the hit TV show The Voice, Baby Bash, and The Outervibe.

Nearby bars like Hopcat say sales have skyrocketed since the event started.

"It's just growing. More and more people are coming downtown, which is great to see, instead of sitting at home," says assistant general manager Allison Minton. "It's nice for us to have kind of a buffer for them before they head down that way."

Hopcat is opening up its heated back patio to seat more customers during New Year's Eve. The bar is expecting a line out the door and employees are ready for it.

"Being that [New Year's Eve] is on a Monday, it's going to make it a little bit different because we usually have kind of a quieter night that night. In this case, we're preparing for a Friday or Saturday night. We have a full staff on, and the kitchen is completely packed too. They'll be ready to go for lots of food orders," says Minton.

Visitors to Hopcat, Stella's McFadden's and the Grand Rapids Brewing Company can get in free on New Year's Eve, but they must be 21 years or older.

Also at Van Andel Arena, there will be an indoor fireworks show after the New Year's Eve game. Guests will also be invited to ice skate after.
