ALLENDALE, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Grand Valley State University student has confessed to sending out fake emails, posing as faculty or administrators, according to a statement from the university.
The emails were recently sent to university faculty members and students.
Officials say the fake emails were coming from a Gmail account, and that they were using search warrants to track down the responsible party.
In a statement released Monday, the university said evidence gathered by campus police led them to a current GVSU student, who admitted to sending the messages. University officials are not releasing the name of the student.
Police will meet with the Ottawa County Prosecutor's office, and a judicial referral is being forwarded to the office of the dean of students for possible violation of GVSU's student code.
