GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - More than a year after he left the district, the divorce between Grand Rapids Public Schools and former superintendent Bernard Taylor is finally "final."

The school board Tuesday night agreed to pay Dr. Taylor a severance and settle his lawsuit against the district out of court.

It was due in June, but the school board was refusing to pay Dr. Taylor the $330,000 he was owed under his severance agreement.

The former superintendent settled for $280,000 and both sides agree that ends the dispute.

"It's great to have this behind us," said board member David LaGrand. "I'm glad we are done."

In the settlement, both sides agree not to make any further comment.

Dr. Taylor is now superintendent of schools in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He served as superintendent in Grand Rapids for nearly six years.
