WHITEHALL, Mich. (WZZM) -- Walmart representatives are standing behind their decision to build a new store on the lakeshore.
The retail giant is planning on building a 126,000 square foot super-center at U.S. 31 and Holton-Whitehall Road. The Whitehall store would offer general merchandise, automotive services and groceries.
Members of group protesting the store's construction voiced their disagreements during a planning commission earlier this week.
Walmart responded Friday by saying, "Some of the louder voices in this debate don't represent the majority opinion. The customer voice is clear and demonstrated every time we open a new location as thousands of local residents show their support by shopping our store."
The store is scheduled in early 2015.
