  • Fatal crash on Scenic Drive near Muskegon State Park

NORTH MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- Investigators in Muskegon County are trying to determine the cause of a crash that killed a biker, whose body was found hours later.

A passerby discovered the motorcycle along Scenic Drive at Muskegon State Park around 7 a.m. Thursday. When police arrived, they found the rider, 41-year-old Matthew Thies of Fruitport, about 30 feet away in a wooded ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scenic Drive does not have street lights, so authorities say Thies could have been there for several hours. Investigators say it appears he was traveling southbound, swerved into the northbound lane, and then left the roadway.

Thies was wearing a helmet.
