GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A female teacher at University Prep Academy is accused of having sex with at least two students.
The teacher is identified as 35-year-old Jamila Williams, according to Paul Helder, president of the Grand Rapids Education Association.
The Kent County Prosecutor's office has authorized warrants for four counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct against Williams. It's alleged she sexually assaulted two boys, ages 15 and 16, at various sites in Grand Rapids over the past three months.
Under Michigan law, third degree criminal sexual conduct is a felony. She could face a prison sentence of up to 15 years if convicted.
Police began investigating Williams Monday after several students and their parents complained to school officials. School leaders immediately removed her due the severity of the allegations.
According to her biography on the the school's website, Williams taught 9th grade mathematics. She had been at University Prep Academy for four years and spent a total of six years at GRPS.
Williams has four children, ages 19, 13, 9, and 3, and and twin step-children, age 16. She says her hobby is "spending time with children because children are my world."
University Prep serves students from sixth through tenth grades. It calls itself a unique school, but it's not the only one in GRPS with staffers accused of sexual assault.
School leaders informed parents Tuesday that a man who worked at Sherwood Park Global Studies Academy as a para professional, or, teachers aide, was arrested. It came after a month-long investigation into his alleged inappropriate conduct with students at the school for kindergarten through eighth graders.
Kevin Dengel, 44, faces three charges of criminal sexual conduct and three counts of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct.
Via Facebook, he replied to WZZM 13 saying: "I am under legal counsel. I decline and I am very innocent. Please do not contact me again."
Dengel is free on bail.
