GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Inside the Cathedral of Saint Andrew Tuesday, a visitor could hear the pipe organ being tuned. It's one of many preparations in advance of next Tuesday's Mass of Ordination and installation for the new Bishop of the Diocese of Grand Rapids, David Wolkowiak.
The 2 p.m. service is by invitation only. About 850 guests are expected, including 28 bishops, two retired Detroit cardinals, and 120 priests. The service will be viewable on the EWTN cable TV channel, as well as online at GR Bishop installation service.
Bishop Wolkowiak is the 12th Bishop in the history of the Diocese of Grand Rapids. He comes to Grand Rapids from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, where was the pastor of Saint Joan of Arc Parish.
Tuesday, Monsignor Bill Duncan, the Vicar General of the Grand Rapids Diocese, said viewers of the service "will see something that is part of our tradition since the church was founded and they'll see the gathering of the church in great great celebration, which is what it should be."
