GRAND RAPIDS, (WZZM) - It's a long way from Grand Rapids to the lakeshore and back on a bicycle, but dozens of riders made the 80 mile journey Saturday during the first ever Michigan State College of Human Medicine 'Gran Fondo.'
The trip to Grand Haven was the longest of 3 options for the 1,500 participants. Most riders chose the 40 or 12 mile routes.
Proceeds from registration fees and the other festivities will support skin cancer research at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
After the ride there was a "gears and beers" party at the B.O.B. with craft beer, Michigan wines and food from the Gilmore collection.
