GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Visitors to the John Ball Park Zoo will get the opportunity to get a close look at how zoo employees take care of the animals.

There will be eight to ten different daily demonstrations, ranging from animal training to feeding time. Visitors will be able to see animal training sessions, live enrichment feedings, and even participate in some of the demonstrations. "It's not a show." said General Curator, Barb Snyder. " It's what we do every day for the well-being of the animals, but now we share the 'whys and hows' with our guests."

The zoo made the decision to go public with the animal care demonstrations to show people exactly what goes into caring for the over 2,000 animals.

Visitors can check the daily schedule posted near the zoo's entrance, or ask at the information booth in the central plaza. Information can also be found on the John Ball Zoo smartphone app, which is available for Android and iPhone.

John Ball Zoo is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is $8.50 for adults and $6.50 for kids ages 3-13. Children two and under are free. John Ball Zoo is located on Fulton just 1.5 miles west of downtown Grand Rapids.
