(WZZM) -- For years, WZZM 13 has been committed to raising awareness about breast cancer and breast health. But starting this week, our Friends For Life Campaign is getting even bigger. WZZM 13 Health Reporter, Valerie Lego will be joining Juliet to spread the message.

We started Friends For Life over 15 years ago and it's because of people like Valerie O'Brien of Muskegon that the message continues to be shared.

On October 13,1998, O'Brien was watching WZZM 13 News and saw our monthly Friends for Life reminder. That's when she decided to do her first breast self-exam. She found a lump that turned out to be breast cancer.

O'Brien says if she hadn't seen the Friends for Life message, she wouldn't have caught her cancer so early. Now nearly 15 years later, O'Brien continues to be an ambassador for Friends for Life.

WZZM 13 is expanding the campaign with the help of Mercy Health. We are hoping you will get involved. We'll be sharing more about our increased efforts throughout the week.
