The body was found on the Plaster Creek Trail in Ken-O-Sha Park Thursday morning.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Police are investigating the death of a 47-year-old prostitute whose body was dumped near the entrance of Ken-O-Sha Park.
A passer-by spotted the body about 7:45 a.m. Thursday off Plaster Creek Trail.
Grand Rapids Police identify the victim as Marie J. Nettles. They say someone killed her at another location, then moved her body to the trail.
Police say Nettles had a history of street prostitution and "had been known to frequent Division Avenue."
During the investigation Thursday morning, teachers working at nearby Ken-O-Sha Elementary were told to stay inside while officers searched dumpsters behind the school. Authorities also roped off nearby woods to interview potential witnesses.
A forensics team remained on the scene for hours Thursday morning. Police say there is no apparent connection to the school.
