Plainfield Twp. & 4 Mile Road
UPDATE AT 5:54 A.M. (WZZM) -- Police have taken a teenager into custody for a Grand Rapids Township shooting.
They arrested the boy at the Northlake Village Apartments in Grand Rapids around 4:00 Tuesday morning, after a 3.5 hour standoff.
Authorities say there were never any threats made, it just took a while to coax him into coming out of the apartment where he was living with his mom and sister.
The apartment complex is about a block away from the laundromat where the shooting took place.
The boy is now being held at the Kent County Juvenile Detention Center, awaiting charges.
The shooting happened shortly after 6 p.m. at the Coin Laundry near 4 Mile Road on Plainfield Avenue.
"We believe it was a robbery," Capt. Kevin Kelley says. "The parties had agreed to meet here to exchange property... and when the suspect showed up to buy the property, he ended up shooting both of the other subjects."
Kelley says the men had apparently met on the internet and it does not appear to be a drug transaction.
"The victims are not critically injured," he says. "They were both talking and conscious when we arrived."
One victim was shot in the back, the other in the leg.
The two victims were trying to sell a phone to the teenager.
