GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) The inaugural Meijer Winter State Games of Michigan will be held February 14th-16th in and around Grand Rapids. The West Michigan Sports Commission announced details Tuesday morning for the Olympic-style winter games, which will build on the success of the State Summer Games.
Twelve sports will be offered including traditional winter sports at Cannonsburg Ski Area. A complete list of the games and detailed information can be found here.
The Sports Commission says it expects about 2,000 athletes to compete and generate a half million dollars into the West Michigan economy. The fourth-annual summer games last June, by comparison, saw more than 6,500 athletes compete. The Sports Commission claims an independent survey shows participants this summer spent an average of $483 per family generating $2.7 million into the West Michigan economy.
