Elderly driver had medical issue in fatal crash

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Police say a Florida woman appears to have suffered a medical issue before causing a chain-reaction crash.

It happened around 7:20 p.m. Sunday on Camelot Drive between the Beltline and East Paris, near Woodland Mall.

Maxine Elaine Battjes, 91, of Boynton Beach, Florida was eastbound on Camelot when she hit a parked car from behind.  Both vehicles then hit the back end of a parked semi.

Battjes died at the hospital.  Police are still looking for witnesses to the accident.  Anyone with information is asked to call Grand Rapids Police at (616) 456-3604, or Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345.
