GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A Grand Rapids investment firm has purchased the property currently occupied by the Michigan Athletic Club.

Earlier this year Mercy Health St. Mary's announced it would not renew its lease to operate the facility.

A representative for CWD Real Estate Investment firm says it will purchase the property at 2500 Burton Street. CWD is co-managed by businessmen Dan DeVos, Sam Cummings, and Scott Wierda.

The group says it wants to do what it feels is best for the surrounding neighborhood and business district. There are no specific plans about what might be built on the site. However, CWD says it does not want to leave the property vacant for an extended period of time.

The Michigan Athletic Club will close in January.
