GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Grand Rapids officials are getting a little help adding a bikeway that will run through the heart of the city.
Crews will soon get to work on the three and a half mile path on Seward Avenue between Wealthy Street and the Riverside Park Trail.
MDOT is pitching in $600,000 in the form of a grant for the project. The total estimated cost is a little more than $1 million.
The bikeway will include on-street and off-road bike lanes along with parking and shelters.
Parks Director Jay Steffen told WZZM 13: "We really are becoming a bicycle friendly community, which is great because we are helping people to get out of their automobiles and find different ways to get to work and bicycles are one of them."
