GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - A 123 year old building in the heart of downtown has new life following a $4 million dollar investment from 616 Development.  Derek Coppess, of 616 Development, today celebrated the grand opening of the 616 Lofts at the Kendall.  It features an Italian restaurant, 616's corporate office, and 12 apartments.

"We had a thousand person waiting list so we had a lot of people that want to come into our units and live downtown and be a part of this community - it's a thriving community in the making and we're excited to be a part of it" Coppess said Thursday.

The Italian restaurant, Osteria Rossa, will open next month on the ground floor of the five-story building at 16 Monroe Center.

The development received funding support from the state and city.

"This building was a historic treasure, and without the support of the city and state, redevelopment the project wouldn't have been possible," Coppess said. "This project and the new life it brings to the city center is a perfect example of how public-private partnerships can create growth and restore life in urban areas."
