(WZZM) - Here's Part 2 of the top clicks of WZZM13.com in 2013. Click here for Part 1, clicks #11-#15. The top clicks will be revealed on Thursday.
#10 - 27 busted in marijuana raid. This one got a lot of chatter about the usefulness of such police activity...and the photo gallery of all 27 people busted in the raid. And charges ended up being dropped! Click here for the dismissal story and related links: http://whitehallmontague.wzzm13.com/news/news/178233-charges-dismissed-against-27-pot-bust and click here for the photo gallery: http://www.wzzm13.com/news/photo-gallery.aspx?storyid=271164
#9 - Down comes the GVSU "wrecking ball". West Michigan couldn't resist our own local Miley Cyrus tie-in. And Grand Valley students couldn't resist mocking Cyrus' "wrecking ball" song by riding the GVSU "wrecking ball" naked. We made the national morning shows with this one! #8 - O-Negative Blood is special, needed. Our only health report to make the list - at one that is possible through a partnership with Michigan Blood. The blood donation groups...and those proud to be O-Negative helped share this one around the country. #7 - MSP Trp. killed at traffic stop. On Sept. 9, Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield was shot and killed at a traffic stop in Mason County. A couple of hours later, Eric Knysz and his pregnant wife Sarah, were arrested, a county away. Click here for the original story: http://www.wzzm13.com/news/story.aspx?storyid=267410
Governor Snyder came to the funeral of Trp. Butterfield at Manistee High School and was attended and viewed by thousands.
I was surprised that this wasn't higher on the list, but the subsequent stories about the suspects have been pretty straightforward. Sarah Knysz has already pleaded guilty to obstruction and been sentenced to 2-5 years in prison. She is due to give birth any time. Eric Knysz's trial is expected to be in February. If the trial had also happened in 2013, this may have been higher on the list.
#6 - The Floods of 2013 - April. If you are thinking it is snowing a lot now, just remember how much it rained that last week of April. After the fact, we discovered that we were just a few inches from real disaster in downtown Grand Rapids when the Grand River topped off just inches from the top of the flood walls. Dozens of cars were floating in the parking garage below Plaza Towers and residents were evacuated from there, and from a nursing home in Grandville amongst several other neighborhoods. New laws were also introduced to try and keep people from kayaking in the flood waters and then needing rescue. The top 5 of 2013 will be here on Thursday...along with some "honorable mentions."
