GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Christmas is over and if you had a real Christmas tree, it is time to figure out how to get rid of it.

If you are in the city of Grand Rapids, the city is offering free Christmas tree recycling starting January 2nd.  All ornaments, tinsel, nails and any other decorations need to be removed before bringing it to disposal.

Trees can be taken to any one of four locations between the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm, seven days a week, until January 31st.  The locations are:

  • Riverside Park (north entrance), 2001 Monroe NE
  • Jaycee McKay Family Park, 2531 Kalamazoo SE
  • Lincoln Park, 398 Garfield NW
  • Huff Park, 2286 Ball NE

Or, you can have the city pick up your tree on your normal garbage pickup day by attaching a $1.50 bulk yard waste tag to the tree.
