The cross put back atop St. Mary Magdalen
St. Mary Magdalen Church, Kentwood. (August 13, 2012)
KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) - Some church members call it a miracle; one of the only parts of St. Mary Magdalen Church to survive last year's fire will be reinstalled Tuesday morning.
The fire was started accidentally by fireworks in July 2012. Most of the church was destroyed, but in the rubble, its giant cross was found unharmed.
Church members have been meeting in a temporary location while raising money to build the church back up. In a ceremony at 9:30 a.m., the cross will be placed at the top of the newly-renovated steeple. Everyone is welcome to the parking lot to see the cross return home.
The complete renovation of the church is expected to be done in June 2014.
