COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WZZM) -- Will Fifth Third Ballpark be rebuilt with just three months before opening day? Team leaders say it will be difficult, but possible.

A massive fire ravaged the ballpark Friday, destroying the right field concourse and collapsing 11 upper deck suites.

We will play baseball April 8th," said Denny Baxter, the West Michigan Whitecaps managing partner. "We can reopen without everything being rebuilt."

As crews worked to extinguish hot spots Friday afternoon, the team was already assessing damages, including to the broadcast and audio booths.

"It's a lot more than just a business. It's a family thing. We love this place and we will overcome," Baxter said. "We will be just as strong as before."

Baxter said the field was not damaged. Other events are also not expected to be affected, but may have some logistics changed. The Michigan Winter Beer Fest is scheduled for February 22.
