PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan authorities say the heavy snow and deep freeze are a factor in at least six deaths - three people killed in traffic accidents and three who collapsed after shoveling snow.

State police say a car slid in front of an oncoming propane tanker Monday afternoon in Otsego County, critically injuring the car's driver and killing a passenger. Their names weren't released.

State police say a 16-year-old driver hit 50-year-old pedestrian Timothy Nixon of Hastings on Saturday in Barry County. Police say 27-year-old Branden Hewitt of Owendale died Saturday in a two-vehicle crash in Huron County.

Oakland County medical examiner's Administrator Robert Gerds tells the Detroit Free Press that a 36-year-old Detroit man, a 57-year-old Milford man and a 67-year-old Pontiac woman all died after shoveling snow.
