GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Former U.S. Senator, Olympia Snowe spoke Thursday as part of Calvin College's January Series.
Snow, a moderate republican from Maine, announced she would not seek a new term in 2012 citing a dysfunctional Congress unable to negotiate. She told the crowd what Washington needs now is a leader like Gerald R. Ford.
"As former House Speaker Tip O'Neil said, President Ford was the right man at the right time to put our nation together. I would say that same spirit is the right approach. Bipartisanship is the right way to putting our government together again," said Snowe.
Snowe was once named the 54th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes Magazine and one of the top 10 Senators in 2006 by Time Magazine.
The January Series is free and open to the public. It runs until January 28 at Calvin College in Grand Rapids. Click here for a list of speakers: www.calvin.edu/january/2014.
