GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WZZM) - The principal at Grandville High School has taken a medical leave of absence after being diagnosed with leukemia.

Chris VanderSlice is in his first year as principal, after being assistant principal for the previous four years.  He has been in the Grandville school system his entire career.

The school has sent a note home to parents in recent days informing them of the situation.  Grandville Schools Superintendent Ron Caniff says they have been rearranging work duties to fill in for VanderSlice.  He does not know when VanderSlice will be able to return to the school.

VanderSlice began intensive treatment for ALL, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, at the University of Michigan Tuesday, according to his church, Ivanrest Church.  You can see that page here: http://www.ivanrest.org/chrisvanderslice
