GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A prostitute and stripper says the murder of a Grand Rapids man was an accident.

Dijana Kilic testified Wednesday that her boyfriend, Daynell Thomas didn't mean to shoot and kill one of her clients, the gun just went off. Kilic, says 56-year-old business man John Dahlinger never wanted her for sex, just company while he got high on drugs.

Kilic, 24, charged him 300 dollars an hour, but the morning of October 16, she says Dahlinger didn't pay her for all of her time, so she summoned Thomas, her boyfriend and pimp, to come in and collect.

"He told me he was coming inside the house he told me should he bring a gun? I said yes," Kilic testified. "Why did you say bring a gun?" asked the prosecutor. "Bad judgment," she replied.

In return for a light sentence, Kilic agreed to testify against Thomas.

"I was screaming at him, I said 'What happened? What did you do?' He told me it was an accident and I said, 'What happened?' He said John tried to pull on the gun to get it away from him and Daynell's finger accidently hit the trigger," Kilic testified.

She says she first met Dahlinger through a stripper friend he was fond of, and then in early October he made a date with her through a website where prostitutes post their profiles. But he didn't want sex, instead he paid her $300 an hour to keep him company.

"He was getting high and I was drinking," Kilic said. "What do you mean he was getting high?" the prosecutor asked. "He was using cocaine."

Responding to a text message October 16, Kilic had Thomas drop her off at Dahlinger's condo. She says after he used cocaine, she gave him some heroin and he said he still owed her another $300 for a second hour of companionship. When she concluded he couldn't pay, she texted Thomas.

"I seen Daynell in the doorway, he had a gun pointed at us. He said, 'Where is the rest of her money?' he started walking toward us, I left the room. At that point I got scared and I left the room," she testified. "About maybe two minutes after that I heard a gunshot. I ran for the door and maybe 30 seconds later, Danyell comes after me and he just said to get in the car-- hurry up and get in the car-- and I did and we drove off. And I asked him 'Is he going to live?' he said probably not that he wasn't going to make it."

In return for her testimony, Dijana Kilic is facing one year in county jail and five years probation for her role in the murder of John Dahlinger and lying to investigators. If he's convicted for murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and possessing a firearm, Daynell Thomas could receive a life sentence.
