NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WZZM) - Southbound US-31 has reopened as of 9 a.m. after multiple crashes near the Sternberg exit and I-96 exit.
WZZM 13's Jon Mills reports that 14 cars and a semi-trailer tied up the highway in six different crashes. The first crash started when a vehicle going too fast for conditions spun out on southbound US-31. The other vehicles piled up behind it and the semi jack-knifed.
Five people suffered non-life threatening injuries. They were taken to area hospitals.
Police tell WZZM that they will likely be issuing citations in the crashes, but the investigation is not yet complete.
US-31 was closed for about two hours.
