GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Thousands of new jobs will come to the Grand Rapids area under a plan unveiled by the economic development group The Right Place."
Between now and the end of 2016, the Right Place wants to generate 5,500 new jobs, $390 million in capital investment, and $183 million in payroll.
This plan picks up where a successful, five-year plan left off, resulting in 11,000 jobs added, $750 million in new investment, and $370 million in new payroll.
The results almost double the original goals Birgit Klohs, president and CEO of The Right Place set at the beginning of the recession in 2008.
"We are very much looking forward to continuing the growth pattern we're on, and continue to move the region economically forward," said Klohs. "The new plan sets very aggressive metrics as well, because we want to build on the success we just had."
To reach its goals, The Right Place plans to focus on the growing fields of smart manufacturing, agribusiness, food processing, and commercial design.
