GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - The Kent County Board of Commissioners have chosen a replacement for a commissioner under investigation on criminal charges.
The board voted Thursday morning to appoint Diane Jones, a Cannon Township Trustee to the commission. She fills the seat vacated by Gary Rolls, who was arrested in November on sexual assault charges, stemming from an alleged 12-year sexual relationship with a girl that lived near him that began when she was eight years old. Rolls resigned from the commission as of January 1st, he said, to spend time on his defense of the charges.
Also at Thursday morning's meeting, Sandi Frost Steensma resigned from her seat in District 5. The commission will begin taking applications to be her replacement. Her resignation is in effect as of February 1.
