GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Here's something to think about before you drive on slippery and snow-covered roads: it could be very expensive if you slide off and hit a guard rail or cable barrier.
It's been a rough winter so far and there have been several multi-vehicle accidents on Michigan highways. The Michigan Department of Transportation says it has to send out a crew with special equipment to fix the damage.
"If you're at cause or at fault, if you've gone off the road and hit a cable rail, we'll tag that accident and it will be associated with the damage that you caused. The state will seek reimbursement," said Kurt Fritz of MDOT.
For a single post, it will cost the driver or their insurance provider about $75. For a section of posts and tension wires, it could cost up to $2,500.
