GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Spectrum Health is showing off its newest medical facility. The blood and marrow transplant suite opens to patients on February 3.
The new space will help better accommodate the needs of both patients and providers, and it will give West Michigan something it didn't have before.
"There are three other programs that offer this same kind of service, two in Detroit and one in Ann Arbor. So patients who needed this therapy in this area would have to travel to Detroit or Chicago, or Indiana," said Stephanie Williams of Spectrum Health.
Spectrum launched the adult blood and marrow transplant program last February. Since then, 40 patients have received transplants.
The program has already had 156 patient referrals.
