GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- One of the victims in the deadly crash on I-94 Thursday was a Grand Rapids school teacher.

Marilyn Wolma, along with her husband Tom, and a man from Chicago, died in the crash involving dozens of vehicles and trucks on I-94 in Michigan City, Indiana.  Wolma was a retired teacher at Sibley Elementary in Grand Rapids, but still filled in as a substitute.

Bernice Wisnieski, a teacher at Sibley, Friday said:"She was dedicated to her students, dedicated to her staff, dedicated to her friends.  She was always the first one there when you needed something - always."

The Wolmas were returning from a trip to Wisconsin to help Marilyn's sister recover from surgery, Wisnieski said.

"He was a devoted father - a devoted husband just a wonderful friend...big loss to many many people who they have touched."

Julie Schafley, a neighbor of the Wolma's said "The thing that comes to mind first when I think of Tom and Marilyn Wolma is that they loved Jesus with all their heart and that was first and foremost for them."

Also hurt in the crash Jeff Rennell of Ada.  His family tells WZZM that he suffered a broken leg in the crash.

We'll have more from those who knew the Wolma's later tonight on WZZM 13 News.
