HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- Car accidents caused by this week's winter weather are boosting business for local junk yards.

Black River Recycling in Holland has received about 10 damaged or totaled vehicles in the past few days due to the weather. The manager says the winter months are normally slower, but this week has been about 10% to 20% busier than usual.

Most of the damaged vehicles at Black River Recycling have been older and less expensive, but at least one of them was a relatively new Ford Explorer.

"It was only probably a five or six year old vehicle, but it was probably $10,000 worth of damage, you know it's a shame you take a $10,000 to $15,000 vehicle and it comes here and it's worth a few hundred dollars," says Kurt Alderink, manager of Black River Recycling.

Alderink says he pays $300 to $400 for the average vehicle, but that depends on its weight. He says fortunately no one was seriously injured in any of the vehicles sold to him.
