GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) Mason County Eastern High School is not used to producing many collegiate athletes. The class D school, in the town of Custer, has an enrollment of about 170 students. But one of the stars of this year's graduating class is bringing her game and her impressive list of achievements to Grand Rapids next school year.

WZZM and Meijer are pleased to recognize Mason County Eastern senior Alyssa Bryan as our Meijer Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of May 21st.

Alyssa will play softball at Calvin College next year and tells WZZM she will likely join the women's basketball team as well.

A fantastic student, Alyssa carries a 3.99 grade point average, ranks third in her class, and has already earned 34 college credit hours attending West Shore Community College. Alyssa earned the West Michigan D League Principal's Triple A award and scholarship opportunities from Ferris State, Northwood and Saginaw Valley State before choosing Calvin. She also serves as her class president and has won numerous all-state academic awards.

In sports, she's been a heavily decorated athlete for the Cardinals competing in volleyball, basketball and softball. Alyssa has been named first-team all-conference in volleyball and softball and was the captain of the basketball team.

She's gotten the most out of her years at Mason County Eastern, which she calls a tightly-knit community school. She's served on the yearbook committee, Quiz Bowl team, student council and choir. She tells us she would like to major in psychology at Calvin.

WZZM and Meijer congratulate Alyssa Bryan for her hard work in her high school years and wish her continued success in the future!
